I like big trucks and I can not lie...

(The Sat Truck... hangin' with it's blue collar buddies)
OK, I’m a geek… a construction geek. I love those Modern Marvel, Extreme Engineering, Big Truck shows on the History and Discovery channels! And I love a good story that lets me get up close with those cool machines.
(I asked... and NO, they wouldn't let me operate the crane)
Today’s adventure had me operating the satellite uplink truck where the DOT is planning to take down an old bridge to make way for new construction. I backed my truck within just a few feet of the crane that would lift away large sections of the bridge.
Unless you’ve walked right up beside these big machines it’s hard to imagine the sheer bulk these things have. These things weigh tons, reach way out, move like a slug and yet the operators can manipulate them with fine detail.

(I guess I'll have to stick with what I know best... TV)

What I do… the bulk of my work, is seen on-air for about 90 seconds and then usually never airs again. But the guys who build things, they can drive past the new bridge 20 years from now and point to it and say “I helped build that.” That’s cool.
