Regional Emmy Awards Recognize WRAL.com For Interactivity
If you have digital cable, there's a slim chance you might have tuned in Saturday night to watch the regional Mid-South Emmy awards on UNC-TV. The awards in Nashville recognize some of the best work done by or for local television stations in North Carolina, Tennessee and part of Alabama.
(OK, so only employees at stations up for awards -- and a few of their loved ones -- were actually watching the live broadcast.)
WRAL.com brought home an Emmy statue for Interactivity, while the TV station received three awards, including best live news coverage.
I believe several new content features added to the site in 2005 led to this recognition. First, we started a live webcast called LIVE@WRAL.com. Then we made our newscasts and other local programming available as audio podcasts. We also added blogs covering topics ranging from ACC Sports to adoption to North Carolina travel destinations. And whenever possible, we solicited your photos and opinions.
The fast pace and 24/7 nature of the Internet leaves little time to enjoy accolades. There are always new stories to post, photos and video to edit, and e-mail to answer. But I want to take a few minutes tonight to thank our Web team for their dedication and professionalism. They work hard each day to bring you relevant news, weather, sports and community information. They are the reason you are visiting an award-winning site. Thank you Rod, Kamal, Kelly, Dana and Jennifer.
