Professional Experience:
Monica joined WRAL as 5 on Your Side reporter in 1994. She has also held positions as WRAL’s weekend morning anchor, weekend evening anchor, and executive producer. She also worked as an anchor/reporter in Ft. Myers, Fla., at WEVU-TV and then WINK-TV, and later at Orlando’s WCPX-TV(WKMG) and WESH-TV. She started her television career in 1984 at WCPX-TV as a news production assistant.

Awards & Recognition:

Monica has won six Emmys and has been nominated for several more. She also won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for her work on a series of investigative segments exposing what happened to vehicles flooded during Hurricane Floyd.

Training assistance dogs for Canine Companions for Independence, Hospice of Wake County, travel, ANYTHING at the beach, home projects, cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends

Hurricane Fran in Raleigh(after dozens of trees fell on MY home), Hurricane Andrew’s obliteration of Miami, Pope John Paul II's trip to Miami, going to the Bahamas to expose a vacation/travel scheme, the Unclaimed Baggage center in Alabama, the BMW Driving School in Greenville, SC, and Grape Expectations—a documentary about North Carolina’s wine industry.
