Cary, N.C. — The Wake County Public School System on Thursday named Rolesville Middle School Principal Dhedra Lassiter the district's 2014-15 Principal of the Year.
Lassiter started with the district in 1993, teaching at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School. She later served in the district's Human Resources office and as an assistant principal and principal at Heritage Middle School.
In 2011, she was selected as the principal to open the new Rolesville Middle.
Lassiter said she believes effective instructional leadership is based on knowledge of curriculum, teaching and the developmental psychology of children.
“Our groups are working toward common goals," she said. "We need to engage in activities that assure we have a shared lens on learning with expectations for academic excellence for students.”
As Principal of the Year, Lassiter received a $1,000 check from Lifetouch Studios, as well as a Carolina Panthers Game Package, which includes luxury suite game tickets for two, overnight accommodations at the Charlotte OMNI and a $100 dinner voucher, compliments of Toshiba Business Solutions. She also received a rolling cart filled with miscellaneous office supplies and an HP Officejet Printer, compliments of Mike Griffin of Office Depot.
Rolesville Middle will receive a $1,000 award Strawbridge Studios.
Lacey Peckham of Middle Creek High School was named the 2014-15 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Peckham has served as assistant principal at Middle Creek High, Martin Magnet Middle School and Sanderson High School. Prior to that, she was a Spanish teacher at Green Hope High School and Sanderson High School.
