Rocky Mount schools locked down after gun shots nearby

Posted October 11, 2013

— Two elementary schools and another school building were locked down briefly Friday in Rocky Mount after reports of gun shots nearby.

No students were ever in danger, school leaders said, and the schools were locked down merely as a precaution.

The lockdown, at D.S. Johnson Elementary School, Fairview Elementary School and the Teacher Resource Center, began at 11 a.m. and lasted about 20 minutes before law enforcement officials gave the all clear.
