Rocky Mount police investigating home break-ins

Posted October 27, 2009

Rocky Mount police are investigating a series of home break-ins that occurred within an hour of each other Tuesday morning.

The four break-ins happened in the area of South Washington Street, Rosewood Avenue and Parkridge Court and between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Two of the break-ins on South Washington Street were neighboring residences, according to police reports.

Investigators said that someone saw a man trying to get into the back door of the residence on Parkridge Court.

Verlean Phillips said she returned home from her third-shift job to find that someone had tried to kick in the door to her and a brick thrown through a window. Her cell phone, wallet and jewelry were gone, she said.

Authorities are unsure if any of the cases are connected.

They did arrest a man for three other break-ins in another part of the city but said it does not appear the two sets of cases are linked.

"A punk broke into my house and only got 6 months"

Feel fortunate, we had a break-in and the punks got NO jail time but had to pay restitution. Do we need to tell you how much of that we got? RM is getting worse by the week. City ouncil turns a blind eye to the problems in town.

Rocky Mount hasn't been 'The City on the Rise' in years. The current slogan is 'Remarkable Rocky Mount.' Not only is the slogan stupid, it's a bald faced lie. I am so glad I moved away. I only wish my parents would also.

Rocky Mount used to be a great place to live, but since a change in our elected officials, we have steadily declined in all areas - education, poverty, crime - you name it is on the downhill. I look forward to the day when I can retire and leave the city I have called home all my life, but no longer feel safe in.

Yep this is sad, but our court system does nothing but a slap on the wrist when they are caught. A punk broke into my house and only got 6 months. Just wish I had caught him. I would have gave him life underground.

I feel sorry for the good people who live in Rocky Mount who have to put up with these criminals. Maybe the National Guard can be sent in to clean it up.
