Cary, N.C. — Two Rocky Mount men are behind bars in Wake County after Cary police say they attempted to con an elderly, disabled man out of thousands of dollars.
William Kenneth Ferrell, 50, of 931 Gay Road, and Robert Thomas Privette, 28, of 5821 Luther Lane, along with three other men tried to convince a 78-year-old man he needed $55,226 worth of unnecessary roofing and repairs to his Cary home.
The resident, police indicate in arrest warrants, suffers from several health issues, including Parkinson's Disease, and his limited mobility prevented him from being able to substantiate the work was necessary.
Ferrell and Privette were each jailed Friday under $1 million bonds on charges of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and exploiting a disabled/elderly person's trust.
