ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man pleaded guilty Monday to a firearm possession charge and faces up to 10 years in prison, U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding said.

Ernest Dennis Brown, 44, was arrested in March at the Carver Mini Mart on Carver Road in Raleigh. Officers found a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum revolver they said belonged to Brown.

Because of his criminal record, Brown was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. He has a history of common law robbery, larceny from the person, possession of cocaine, attempted common law robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

Brown could face additional prison time if the court concludes he is an "armed career criminal."
