— Police have charged two men in a fatal shooting outside a gas station early Wednesday.

Derek Antron Morris was shot while he was inside a vehicle at the EP Mart #2, 1211 N. Raleigh St., around 3:05 a.m., police said.

Morris was transported to Nash General Hospital and then moved to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Xavious R. Thomas, 19, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as possession of a stolen firearm.

Leslie J. Perry, 27, faces charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aiding and abetting a felony.

Police arrested both men within 16 hours of the shooting. Officers said that the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Capt. Martin McCoy at 252-972-1485.

Perry was on probation after a November 2007 conviction for drug possession, according to the state Department of Correction records.

He has served about six months in prison for two separate violations of his probation from earlier convictions for drug possession with intent to sell and for carrying a concealed weapon.

The city of Rocky Mount has one of the highest crime rates in the U.S. The police are under-staffed and can not handle Rocky Mount and yet, they are in the process of trying to annex my community into the city of Rocky Mount. Not with-out a fight.
Everyone please pray for us and our fight against them..... Oak Level Community Against Forced Annexation.

It is time for RMT citizens to arm themselves and stop this madness. There was an article about a business owner who had been robbed 3 times, the 3rd time, the intruder was there. He should be suffering from lead poisoning. Folks, people are leaving RMT and not coming back. Someone recently told us that RMT is dead ..... it is starting to look that way.
