Rocky Mount man charged with assault with a deadly weapon

Posted April 21, 2010

— A Rocky Mount man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Edward Lee West, 64, was arrested in the 600 block of Arrington Avenue on Tuesday evening by officers responding to reports of a fight in the street where shots were fired.

When the first officer arrived, a witness stated that West had a gun and fired it prior to the officer's arrival.

Police said West raised the gun toward the officer, who then took cover.

Authorities said West then backed inside a fenced area. He was taken into custody when other officers arrived and surrounded the house.

No injuries were reported.

West was being held under a $3,000 bond in the Nash County jail.

I have known this guy for years. He has had problems all his life. He really needs some help instead of incarceration. But he did break the law and could have caused some serious problems. Maybe the judge will see this and get him some professional help.
