Rocky Mount man charged with animal cruelty
A Rocky Mount man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say they found him trying to sell eight pit bull puppies whose ears were infected from being clipped with shears.

The Rocky Mount Telegram reported (http://bit.ly/rsa3vl) that Anthony V. Harrison, 47, is charged with eight counts each of felony animal cruelty and practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
A local businessman said he reported Harrison after talking with him about the puppies, which Harrison was trying to sell last week. Tom Williams said he then reported the dogs' condition to police.
A veterinarian treated the infections, and the dogs were placed in the care of volunteers.
It wasn't immediately clear if Harrison had an attorney.
Harrison was convicted of second-degree rape and taking indecent liberties with a minor in 1991, according to state Department of Correction records. He served 3½ years in prison. He also has larceny and drug-possession convictions.
