ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man wanted on charges that he kidnapped and beat his ex-girlfriend has surrendered, police announced Thursday.

Ron Christopher Taylor, 40, was denied bond and jailed on charges of second-degree kidnapping, attempted common-law robbery and assault on a female.

Police said that Taylor went to his ex-girlfriend's workplace last Friday morning, assaulted her, forced her into his car and then drove to a nearby driveway. The 30-year-old woman managed to escape, get back to her workplace and call for help.

At the time, Taylor was on probation for September convictions for assault on a female, communicating threats and driving while impaired, according to state Department of Correction records.

His criminal record dates to 1987, and he has spent nearly a decade behind bars for 27 convictions, including common-law robbery and selling drugs.
