Rocky Mount gas leak capped
About 50 people were forced out of offices and homes along Rocky Mount's Sunset Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Posted — UpdatedROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Four blocks of business and residential buildings along Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount were evacuated Tuesday after a gas line broke.
Megan Hanks, city public affairs manager, said electric crews were working in the area when a gas line was hit around 1 p.m.
The leak was capped just before 4:30 p.m.
She estimated 50 people were displaced. They waited on a city bus while the gas leak was capped and the air was tested.
