"I would advise anyone riding a bike to do so armed. That was you can shoot back when such a situation occurs and everyone will know to let you ride in peace."

Yes that is a wonderful idea. Crazed criminals wildly spraying hot lead all over the place and crazed NRA gun nuts spraying hot lead all over the place. And in the middle of all that crazed crossfire hot lead spraying, innocent women and children being mowed down like hay in a field.

Perhaps the shooter was just standing his/her ground? The cyclist may have seemed threatening.

Got it, fishon. As for Red Rascal, I'm far more concerned about bad drivers than guns when I'm riding my bike (unobtrusively I might add).

fishon and Red Rascal, you guys need to take a deep breath and relax a little

I am relaxed. Just attempting to insert some levity into another pathetic story about the state of our "society".

If someone shot me because I wasn't armed to protect myself, I couldn't take a breath at all, much less a deep one.

Good thing i live just outside of city limits in the country,Rocky Mount has been getting more and more out of hand and it gets to such as having to carry a gun everywhere you go. Its not fun to come to Rocky Mount anymore with Best Buy closing and such. You never can open a business unless you can afford the god awful high utility rates

Good idea. I just heard that new law school grads are having a tough time and this would help generate some business for them.

People need to start moving to Durham to escape the high crime rate in their own area.

brotorious - if the vic had been driving a car, they would call him a motorist. If on a motorcycle, a motorcyclist. I give the reporter the benefit of the doubt that the intention was to be descriptive rather than labeling. While many of us bicycling enthusiasts equate bicyclist with enthusiast and will take alarm at the story title, worried that the assault may be related to travel mode, I think the details of the story do a fair job of dismissing that concern.
