Rocky Mount bicyclist injured in drive-by shooting

A bicyclist was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Rocky Mount Monday evening, police said.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A bicyclist was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Rocky Mount Monday evening, police said.

Police said that Antoine Montrell Barnes, 21, was riding his bike to his home on Rosewood Avenue around 7 p.m. when a male passenger in a passing car fired at him near the intersection with North Ferndale Drive.

Barnes was shot in the shoulder, police said. He was taken to Nash Healthcare Systems and then transferrred to Vidant Medical Systems in Greenville. Police said he was in critical but stable condition Tuesday.

Police described the car as a gold, newer model Toyota Corolla. A woman was driving it.
