Robotics demonstrations planned at Wake libraries this week

Posted August 19, 2013

A friend shared this on Facebook and I thought it looked like a lot of fun, but put it in the better late than never category ...

Wake Robotics will host several events at Wake libraries this week. They are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at North Regional Library in north Raleigh; 2 p.m., Thursday, at East Regional in Knightdale; and 3 p.m., Saturday, at West Regional in Cary.

These events require pre-registration and it looks like the event on Tuesday is full and that there's a waiting list for the event at West Regional on Saturday. But there is still space left at the program at East Regional in Knightdale. To sign up and for library locations, go to Wake library's website and contact the library hosting the event that you want to attend.

During the hour-long free event, Wake Robotics will be displaying a wide range of robots and other fun technologies. Find out about 3D printers, explore robot-building tools and practice building robots using LEGO contraptions, according to Wake libraries' website. The program is designed for grade schoolers.

Wake Robotics is a volunteer-based non-profit organization based in Cary that works to "inspire interest and learning in science, engineering, and technology and develops skills in leadership, business, teamwork, communication using the robot as a tool," according to its Facebook page.

If nothing else, let this post serve as more information about a group that you might want to investigate for your robot-loving kids. I hope to share more about it.
