MAXTON, N.C. — Robeson County authorities are investigating the fatal shootings of three men who died Sunday night in the town of Maxton.

Deputies responding to a 911 call around 10 p.m. found the bodies of Mitch Oxendine, 35, and Teddy Maynor, 34, in some woods behind a home on McLeod Drive.

The third victim, John Freeman, 43, was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, where he died.

Relatives said Oxendine and Freeman were shot in the head and that Maynor was shot twice in the back.

Investigators haven't made any arrests or released a possible motive for the crimes, but relatives said they believe the shootings might have been in retaliation related to some kind of incident.

Local residents say the area where the men were found – called "Little Swamp" – is known for parties and drug activity.

Robeson investigators are asking that anyone with any information about the case to contact the sheriff's office at 910-671-3100.
