Robbers target food delivery drivers in Fayetteville

Posted December 21, 2010

— Police said Tuesday that they are investigating a series of robberies involving food delivery drivers in Fayetteville.

Three delivery drivers have been robbed in the past week in the area near Mary and Wall streets, police said, and all three crimes occurred between 8 and 10:30 p.m. Handguns were displayed in two of the incidents, and the robbers used physical force in the third, police said.

Three or four people participated in each robbery. The victims couldn't provide detailed descriptions, but they noted that the robbers wore dark clothing and ski masks and one wore a blue-and-yellow jacket. A woman dressed as a man and wearing a doo-rag might have been involved in one of the robberies, police said.

Police asked business owners to consider requiring customers to pay by credit card on all deliveries made after 8 p.m. and posting signs on the delivery vehicles stating that the drivers don't carry cash.

Anybody with information about any of the robberies is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1529 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

Maybe I am ignorant...but there are other ways to feed your children other than robbing people. Oh wait...I guess if you dont have a job, that is a great reason to steal from others who are trying to make ends meet!

People dont rob because they are poor, they rob because they are thieves. it's greed, not need.

Been waiting for this to start happening.

It will escalate. Too many people are unemployed and have children to feed.

Certainly you're not suggesting that we return to the ways of the Wild West godnessgracious! Doing as you suggested would indeed go that way very quickly.

"Upon graduation everyone should be issued a sidearm"

Excellent idea - I could not agree more!

Delivery trucks with firearms will NOT be robbed.

Upon graduation everyone should be issued a sidearm, and be trained in its safe use. If this kind of thing continues it wouldn't be for long.

That is one of the main reasons you can't get a pizza delivered in east downtown Raleigh after the sun goes down.

    These ghettos can't be saved.
