ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Roanoke Rapids police made an arrest Tuesday night after an autopsy revealed that a Halifax man found in a wrecked car Saturday night had been shot.

Police Chief Jeff Hinton said that Jonathan Andino, 23, was driving a car that crashed into a tree along Chockoyotte Street. He was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center, where he died.

An autopsy performed on Monday determined that Andino had a gunshot wound to his right torso, Hinton said.

Jayquan Termaine Cotton, 20, of 198 Mill St. in Roanoke Rapids, was charged with murder in Andino's death. He was placed in the Halifax County jail without bond and scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Cotton was on probation for convictions for driving while impaired and disorderly conduct earlier this year, according to state Department of Correction records.
