Roanoke Rapids man charged with shooting relative

A man has been charged with shooting a family member during a fight outside Roanoke Rapids Sunday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A man has been charged with shooting a family member during a fight outside Roanoke Rapids Sunday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. R. Keeton said that Dashawn Moore got into a fight with a relative in the Carolina Rest Home Road area. He pulled out a gun, pointed it toward several relatives and fired, injuring one person, Keeton said.

The victim, whose identity wasn't released, was in serious condition Tuesday.

Moore surrendered to authorities Monday and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and three counts of assault by pointing a gun.

He was released from jail under a $50,000 unsecured bond. His first court date was set for Dec. 7.
