Roanoke Rapids man charged with false imprisonment
A Roanoke Rapids man is charged with false imprisonment after a woman claimed she was held Saturday against her will.

The woman told authorities that she was being held captive in a vehicle, which was traveling towards Roanoke Rapids on Sam Powell Road.
Deputies in the area located a vehicle matching the description and followed it to the South Rosemary area of Roanoke Rapids.
The suspect, identified as Jermaine Bowser, ran from the vehicle but was arrested a short time later at a gas station, authorities said.
Bowser, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with false imprisonment and driving with a revoked license.
Bowser was being held Saturday in the Halifax County jail under a $2,000 bond. His first court date is scheduled for March 3.
Bowser served a 2-month sentence in 2009 for three convictions of assault on a female, according to state Department of Correction records. He also served nearly 3 years for violating probation stemming from convictions on four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in 1990.
