Roanoke Rapids man arrested on drug charges

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office arrested a Roanoke Rapids man Saturday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of crack cocaine in his car, authorities said.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — The Halifax County Sheriff's Office arrested a Roanoke Rapids man Saturday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of crack cocaine in his car, authorities said.

James Keith Nelson, 21, of Matthews Street, was pulled over on Key Street in the Lincoln Heights area. Authorities searched the car and found a small amount of crack and over $2,100 in cash, according to the sheriff's office.

Nelson was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to wear a seat belt and driving while license revoked.

He was given a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court April 6.
