Ritter Park is in Cary.

Update! It turns out the installer can't install the equipment this week, so the playground is open this weekend, but will be closed next Thursday and Friday, March 3 and March 4. It will be open next Saturday, March 5, and closed again next Sunday, March 6, for installation, weather permitting.

Ritter Park's playground in Cary will close for about a week so crews can install shade structures.

The playground is scheduled to be closed Thursday to March 3. The plan is to install three 15-foot umbrellas to shade parts of the largest play structures.

The umbrella installation is in addition to the restroom renovations that continue through the end of April, according to a press release. Accessible toilets and a hand washing station are available now next to the existing facility. The baseball/softball fields, basketball court and picnic shelter remain open during the work.

The town is spending about $21,500 to install the umbrellas. The restroom renovation is budgeted for $135,000.

Ritter Park is at 301 Lochmere Drive West, Cary.
