Reward offered to find sex offender

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office has offered a reward to help find a sex offender who failed to register his change of address.

KINSTON, N.C. — The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office has offered a reward to help find a sex offender who failed to register his change of address.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Derek Terrell Cantey, 30. His last known address was on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Kinston.

Cantey was described as a black man, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 137 pounds. He has a tattoo on his chest saying "On Lock Down" and one on his right arm saying "Lonely." Cantey has gone by numerous aliases, including Dei, Dre, Frosdy and Frosty.

Anyone with information on Cantey was asked to call the sheriff’s office at 252-559-6140.

State law requires that for at least 10 years, people convicted of sexual offenses to inform local authorities of their address and whenever they move. Cantey last verified his address in April 2007.

In 2002, Cantey was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor in Lenoir County in June 2001, according to state Department of Correction records. He served 13 months in prison.

He had previously been convicted of possessing stolen goods and credit-card theft.
