CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Dozens of families gathered at the Friday Center on Sunday for the UNC Children’s Hospital’s reunion of babies treated at the facility’s Newborn Critical Care Center, including 18 sets of twins and one group of triplets.

“I just think it's wonderful to be able celebrate life and the health,” said Tonya Tucker, whose son, Johsua, spent seven days in the NICU when he was born in November 2013. “Just the great things that UNC were able to do for us was amazing. They kept me and him together. There were beds available. They fed us. Through a trying time, it made it bearable.”

The critical care center treats more than 800 babies a year, including many born prematurely.
