Reports: Passengers killed in Wake Forest crash had not been drinking

An investigation of the crash that killed Lane Meyer, 16, of Wake Forest, Matt Speight, 17, of Raleigh, and driver Austin Leonard Flowers, 16, of Wake Forest, found that Flowers' Dodge Challenger was going more than 120 mph when he lost control at the intersection of Old Pearce and Zebulon roads and slammed into a tree.

State troopers said at the time of the crash that they suspected speed, not impairment, was the key contributor in the crash. The toxicology test released Tuesday confirms that neither Meyer nor Speight had been drinking. A report on Flowers' condition has not yet been released.

Brenden Pearce, 16, of Wake Forest, was also in the car. He suffered serious injuries, but was released from the hospital Saturday, according to family members.
