WENDELL, N.C. — Students at East Wake High School participating in after-school activities Monday afternoon were put on code yellow lockdown after reports of a man with a gun at a nearby gas station.

Wake County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Phyllis Stephens said three people called to report seeing a man with a gun at a Sheetz gas station in Wendell, less than a mile from the school, shortly before 5 p.m.

Nothing suspicious has been found, but sheriff's deputies planned to stay on school grounds until all school activities were over.

A Wake County schools spokesman said no students were believed to be in danger. Code yellow lockdown means that all exterior school doors are locked but activities can go on normally inside the building.

Deputies will continue to patrol the area throughout the evening, Stephens said.
