Report: Missing Charlotte teacher's boyfriend 'misleading investigators'

The CBS affiliate quoted Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe as saying investigators have interviewed Angelo Grayson Smith Jr. for more than six hours as part of their investigation into the whereabouts of Bianca Tanner.

Smith, whom authorities say reported the 31-year-old mother missing on June 8, is considered a person of interest in the case, which is being treated as a homicide.

WBTV did not elaborate further on Monroe's statement regarding Smith's interview with detectives.

Smith was extradited to Charlotte Tuesday from Chicago, where U.S. marshals arrested him last week on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The charge involves Tanner's 3-year-old son, although details of the allegation are unclear.

Authorities have said Smith reported to police that a drunken Tanner left their home with a bag following an argument and never returned.

According to search warrants, police found evidence of blood in the home, and Tanner's son told detectives that Smith "hurt mommy in the face."

Court records show Smith has a history of domestic violence, including restraining orders from two women.

Tanner grew up in Garner and lived in Greensboro before moving to Charlotte, where she was hired to work on a special project to improve educational opportunities for eight schools.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that helps investigators solve the case.
