Report: Hondas most popular with car thieves

Two Hondas – the 1996 Accord and 1996 Civic – show up at the top of the list of vehicles most commonly stolen in North Carolina.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau’s annual report on stolen vehicles finds that Honda sedans from the mid-1990s are the car most prized by thieves. Two Hondas – the 1996 Accord and 1996 Civic – show up at the top of the list of vehicles most commonly stolen in North Carolina.

The NCIB released the list Monday. It examines theft reports to identify which makes, models and years were stolen most often in 2008.

Top 10 most commonly stolen vehicles in North Carolina for 2008:
1. 1996 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1997 Ford F150 Series Pickup Truck
4. 1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
5. 1993 Toyota Camry
6. 2002 Ford Explorer
7. 2001 Ford Taurus
8. 1994 Dodge Caravan
9. 2000 Chevrolet Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup

10. 1996 Ford Ranger
