Just a quick reminder that Raleigh-Durham International Airport's Observation Park is closed for the next couple of weeks for work.
The park, which features a small playground, mini runways and a platform to watch the planes take off and land, is a popular spot with families for picnics and play. It will be closed through Sept. 13, at last check, for some maintenance work, which includes plumbing and lighting improvements to the restrooms and replacement of the wood planks on the floor of the observation platform.
During that time, families are welcome to view planes from the General Aviation Terminal during the day. Parking there is free for the first four hours even though you pull a ticket. The General Aviation Terminal is within walking distance of Observation Park, so, when the park is open, visitors can go between the two.
However, once work at Observation Park is complete, RDU will shut down the General Aviation balcony for some maintenance work.
