Christmas tree at Pullen Park for its Holiday Express
Just a reminder that Pullen Park will be closed much of this week so staff can prepare and host the sold out Holiday Express.

The park near downtown Raleigh will be closed to the general public Wednesday through Sunday.

The event, which includes a visit with Santa, carousel rides, a ride on the park's kiddie train, arts, crafts and thousands of holiday lights, sold out in just hours this summer. Raleigh parks staff added an additional day to the event, which sold out in October.

If you are one of the thousands with tickets, here are a few things to know before you go:

  • If you have a later train boarding time, you are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the other activities before you hop on the train.
  • Pullen Place Cafe will have a special Holiday Express menu that includes items like a large pizza, chili, soup, hot dogs, nachos, coffee, hot chocolate and snacks.
  • Ticket holders can park at Pullen Park. Overflow parking is at Governor Morehead School across Ashe Avenue and at the Cates Avenue Parking Deck on the campus of N.C. State. Overflow parking is a short walk to the park. There will be no shuttles.
  • If you have purchased tickets, you'll need armbands and boarding passes to get into the event. You can get them on the evening of the event, but, if you want to avoid lines, it's best to get them in advance from the Pullen Amusement Welcome Center, 520 Ashe Ave. It is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6. You must bring a photo ID or receipt to pick them up. Armbands and boarding passes are required for all guests 24 months and older.
