Reminder: Postage stamp prices go up on Sunday

Posted January 24, 2014

Here's a reminder that First Class postage stamp prices go up again on Sunday from 46 cents per stamp to 49 cents.

Pick up some of the Forever stamps at 46 each through Saturday to get a better deal than the stamps will be starting next week.  Remember that many grocery stores sell postage stamps – not just the post office.  You can see more details about the price increase on their website at USPS.com.

Thanks to those who reminded us about the increase on the blog this week!

Foodstamptrader hit the nail on the head. It is not that the USPS is not able to run a business, the CONGRESS OF THE US will not let them. For example. Virginia Foxx is against Post Offices in the mountains that barely get used close. The USPS wants to lay people off, Congress says no, the USPS wants to quite delivery every day, the Congress says no. In Canada, they are already ending door to door delivery and reducing delivery days. We should look north for guidance.

need to shut this org down. they are fiscally unstable and have not a clue on how to run a business.

3 or 4 years back, I bought 3, 20 stamp books at $.33 per stamp, if I remember correctly. I still have 2 full books and 4 stamps left in the last book. For the average citizen, who pays bills online and uses email for letters to family and friends, the post office is only a relic.

Not surprising. The USPS is swimming in red ink and their business model is outdated and drying up.

what bothers me most is that USPS has repeatedly asked congress to let it do what it needs to do to get its costs in line by reducing headcount, unneeded facilities and reducing delivery days. But the politicos won't let them because they want the pork!

The consumer is forced to pay more to prop up a bloated, government job bank of overpaid, entitled union workers.

The USPS will not exist in its current form in 10 years, how they will get there is all about politics....

I still use stamps to mail coupons to some of my fellow bloggers here. If I'm unable to pick up stamps at an actual post office, there are also official/remote post office locations in places like a Shell gas station by where I live where you get the same rates/services as your local post office. (They usually will have a sign outside saying USPS or something like that.)

The vendors who charge more say the extra amount is for the "convenience" not the stamps but the UPS store wanted $1 more per sheet of stamps. Some even charge above the current rate on Priority Mail but if it saves you time & fuel, go for it. I agree on not overbuying or driving out of the way. Fuel costs should factor into every shopping trip.

I hardly ever send anything via the Postal Service these days anyway, so I don't care one way or the other.

Its been 20 years, but when I worked part time in conveniene stores we were told it was a federal offense, by anyone, to sell a government issued stamp for any amount above its face value.

I agree! It's like driving 15 extra miles to save 2 cents per gallon of gas.

I love it when people buy multiple rolls of 100 stamps. It's only 3 cents people!
