Just a reminder: N.C. State's fantastic Farm Animal Days is this week.

Here's what I wrote about it last week:

This year, the event is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at N.C. State's Beef Educational Unit, 4505 Mid Pines Rd., just south of Raleigh. The event is designed for groups, but individuals and families are welcome to attend.

If you want to beat the crowds, get there at either 9 a.m., just as it opens, or 1 p.m., when most of the groups have moved on. The whole thing takes about an hour to walk through.

Activities include touching chicks, turkeys, ducks, pigs, sheep and goats; seeing cows and horses; climbing on tractors; and eating free ice cream from Howling Cow, N.C. State's own ice cream.

There also is a grass area for picnics and quick, daily presentations where you can learn more about animals and agriculture.

The event is free, but they would love any donations to help support the event. Donations are tax deductible. Farm Animal Days' website has the details.
