Durham, N.C. — A Raleigh man who has donated blood for nearly 30 years was recently inducted into the American Red Cross' Donation Hall of Fame. He donates platelets, which are in great demand and used to treat the seriously ill. He has traveled to Durham every few weeks to donate. And it turns out that his uncle-in-law invented the machine that separates platelets from whole blood.
