Registration to open for Raleigh's recreational youth volleyball league

Posted February 8, 2016

Players, coaches and parents will eat out and stay in Raleigh hotels. Boosting the local economy is a side benefit of the big volleyball tournament at the Raleigh convention center.

Registration is now open for Raleigh parks' girls recreational youth volleyball league.

Now in its third year, the league practices and plays games at Optimist Community Center. The cost is $50 for Raleigh residents and $65 for non-residents. Practices begin in March. Games are played in April and May. Girls ages 8 to 10 and 11 to 14 are invited to play.

Registration began Monday and continues until Feb. 19. It may remain open if it doesn't fill up.

I point this out because it's just one of many, many examples of the great programs offered through Raleigh parks and the other various parks departments around here. As I'm looking for affordable activities for my kids, I always check the parks departments first.

Contact Optimist Community Center at 919-870-2880 for more information and to register.
