RAEFORD, N.C. — A 28-year-old Robeson County man has been charged after authorities say he assaulted and burned his girlfriend at a home in Hoke County.

Waleid Kassim Hamoudi, of the 700 block of Cope Road in Red Springs, is charged with assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female and two counts of burning personal property.

Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin says Hamoudi was taken into custody late Thursday after deputies found him at his Cope Road home with blood on his clothing.

Hamoudi's girlfriend called police and was found by authorities at a Food Mart in Raeford. It's unclear how badly the woman was burned.

Hamoudi was being held Friday in the Hoke County jail without bond.
