Red Cross: Fire displaces 150 from Kinston apartment complex

About 150 people were evacuated from the Kinston Towers housing complex early Wednesday due to an electrical fire, Red Cross officials said.

KINSTON, N.C. — About 150 people were evacuated from the Kinston Towers housing complex early Wednesday due to an electrical fire, Red Cross officials said.

Kinston authorities have not released information about how the fire started.

The Red Cross opened a shelter at the Fairfield Recreation Center on Greenbriar Street, and officials said early Wednesday they were helping about 90 of the people displaced by the fire.
Kinston Towers is located in the 500 block of North Queen Street and has 148 units.
