Recipe: Grinch fruit skewers

Posted December 5, 2013

Let's face it: The treats of this season aren't so healthy what with the heavy meals, countless cookies and candy. All in moderation, I suppose.

When my cousin posted this recipe on her Facebook page a few weeks ago, my first thought was that these are absolutely adorable. But as my kids dug into them a few days ago, I also noted that they're actually healthy holiday treats, for the most part.

These are very easy to make and prepare. Both my four-year-old and my eight-year-old helped me put them together. I can see these dotting my cookie platters this Christmas and making their way to some holiday parties.

Here's how to make them:

Grinch fruit skewers

What you need

Green grapes
Banana slices
Strawberries
Mini marshmallows
Tooth picks (I found decorative Christmas picks at a party store)

What you do

Skewer one green grape. Top it with a banana slice (cut about 1/4 inch thick or so). Top the banana slice with a hulled strawberry. The strawberry should be about the same diameter as the banana slice. Top the strawberry with a mini marshmallow. Enjoy!

I'm thinking eat them quickly, @snowl. But you also could try brushing them with a little diluted lemon, orange or pineapple juice.

Very cute and clever idea. How do you keep the banana slice from getting brown? Use green bananas? Eat them quickly? lol
