RALEIGH, N.C. — Six months after a fire destroyed the Hibernian Irish Pub & Restaurant in Raleigh, reconstruction of the landmark in the Glenwood South neighborhood began Monday.

“It feels incredible to start making this kind of progress," owner Niall Hanley said in a statement.

The rebuilding is expected to be finished by Christmas – almost a year to the day that a grease fire in the kitchen sparked the Dec. 26 blaze – and the new Hibernian will feature a two-story layout and rooftop bar.

“Once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every neighbor, friend and patron who has rallied around us in the past year,” Hanley said. “You’re the reason I love to call this city home. We can’t wait to be back and throw the biggest party Glenwood South has ever seen.”
