— Six months after a fire destroyed the Hibernian Irish Pub & Restaurant in Raleigh, reconstruction of the landmark in the Glenwood South neighborhood began Monday.

“It feels incredible to start making this kind of progress," owner Niall Hanley said in a statement.

The rebuilding is expected to be finished by Christmas – almost a year to the day that a grease fire in the kitchen sparked the Dec. 26 blaze – and the new Hibernian will feature a two-story layout and rooftop bar.

“Once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every neighbor, friend and patron who has rallied around us in the past year,” Hanley said. “You’re the reason I love to call this city home. We can’t wait to be back and throw the biggest party Glenwood South has ever seen.”

I was not casting dispersions on the gentleman for rebuilding his business, but the news media for covering it so much with 3 stories in less than a week.

"Wonder if rebuilding a burned out Church would get this much coverage? Just wondering. :)" signofthetimes July 8, 2013 3:58 p.m.

Actually, when you help raise over $1mm for regional & local charities, you tend to help a lot of people. Niall has helped change codes and worked with the City of Raleigh to build downtown and Glenwood South. It is because of this fact that many people want to see him do well.
