Ready for a new TV? Your money will buy more than ever before

Is a new TV on your holiday shopping list?
There is good news – screens are bigger and better than ever, and prices keep dropping.
But there are several things to keep in mind as you shop.
Consumer Reports experts say major brands such as Samsung, LG and Sony will likely be included in holiday deals, as opposed to previous years when only budget brands such as TCL, Hisense and Westinghouse were included in many sale offers.
"Some of the lesser brands have been really aggressive both in the 1080p and 4K markets," Consumer Reports' Jim Willcox said. "What that's done is put a lot of pricing pressure on the major brands."
That means your money will go farther. For example, for $500, shoppers should be able to get a 40-inch 4K Ultra HD TV from a top-performing brand, about half of what it would have cost a few years ago.
About $750 will get shoppers a higher-tier 50-inch 4K Ultra HD model.
Those willing to spend more will get even bigger screens and the latest features, including HDR, or high dynamic range, which offers more realistic looking images.
Consumer Reports says it's worth it to spend extra money for a higher quality TV because most people keep their TVs for seven to 10 years.
While deals will be good in the coming weeks, the best time to buy TVs is often just before Christmas or before the Super Bowl.
