Morrisville, N.C. — The number of passengers traveling through Raleigh-Durham International Airport grew slightly last year over 2011, officials said Thursday.
About 9.22 million passengers passed through RDU in 2012, up 0.7 percent from the 9.14 million the previous year.
In December, 744,884 passengers traveled through RDU, compared with 749,693 during the same month in 2011.
“The numbers today reflect the new normal for U.S. airports,” RDU Airport Director Mike Landguth said in a statement. “Airline mergers and a reduction in the number of seats available for purchase have impacted RDU’s passenger growth for the last few years.
"We will be planning with the assumption that passenger growth will remain flat for the foreseeable future.”
