Raulston offers art workshops for families, teens in March

JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh has some workshops scheduled in March led by instructor Emily Reece, who has taught creative art classes for more than three decades.

Here's what's scheduled:

Exploring Color and Texture with Watercolor Paint, a family art workshop, is 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. Each parent and child will do their own experimentation with watercolors. Watercolor techniques will be explored in a fun way with the creative process as the focus instead of product.

Exploring Color, Texture, and Nature's Shapes, and Patterns with Collage, is 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., March 10. Each parent and child will create and experiment with the versatile media of collage using patterned and solid color papers, colored pencils, fabric, and more.

Both workshops are for ages 6 and up with an adult. The fee is $54, which covers the instructor fee and all art supplies for one child and one adult. Advance registration is required. And the arboretum will offer an early release afternoon art drawing enrichment workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., March 15, for ages 12 to 16. Participants will use a variety of media (pencil, pen, and marker) to draw natural objects of their choice. Students may bring their own collection of natural objects as long as they are not especially fragile or valuable. No previous art experience is necessary.
