Ramp closures will affect State Fair traffic on final weekend

Posted October 24, 2014

— Fairgoers who plan to use Blue Ridge Road via Wade Avenue to drive to the North Carolina State Fair will have to use an alternate route on the final weekend of festivities.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers will close the eastbound and westbound exit ramps from Wade Avenue to Blue Ridge Road from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to help ease heavy traffic volume.

Drivers will be allowed to access Wade Avenue from Blue Ridge Road throughout the weekend.

Highway Patrol officials urged drivers to use Edwards Mill Road when traveling to the fairgrounds.

It will relieve congestion on Wade Ave. Blue Ridge Rd runs alongside the fairgrounds, and traffic is HORRIBLE on Blue Ridge Rd during the fair. If they didn't close off the exits, traffic would be backed up on Wade Ave from people trying to exit on to Blue Ridge Rd to go to the fair - and cause a huge mess on Wade Ave.

"To help ease Fair traffic. How in the world will closing exits help relieve the congestion? Brilliant idea.

This is *SO* smart! The traffic on Blue Ridge during the fair is always abysmally bad.

You didn't go this year due to him keeping the same rules in place as previous years when you did go? Yeah, that makes sense...

I didn't go this year because of Troxler, but I am glad it's almost over!
