Raleigh woman facing child abuse charge

Posted July 27, 2010

— A Raleigh woman is accused of refusing to allow her four children inside the house.

Susanne Marie Boone was charged Friday evening with misdemeanor child abuse.

Police said even when they arrived at the residence, Boone refused to allow the boys inside. The boys also didn’t have anything to drink while outside in the heat, police said.

Boone was arrested and a relative picked up the children.

The boys – ages eight, six, four and three – were not injured.

Boone was released Sunday on a $1,000 bond.

The Department of Social Services was also notified of the incident.

More details haven't been released.

PATRICKJONESA - Maybe if more parents MADE their kids stay outside we wouldn't have the obesity problem in America.

Ok, PatrickJonesA - yes we played outside all the time, but our parents, or at least mine, didn't lock me out, I could come in and eat and DRINK water and go back outside. I hope you aren't a parent, or your kids are being locked out of the house in 100 degree weather with nothing to drink. Think before you write.
Yes kids should play outside more, but we as parents, also, need to responsible and make sure they have access to water when it is 100 degrees, in other words, let them come in and get something to drink and eat. You are not so bright PatrickJonesa

did social services take these abused children in to protective custody?
Anyone can give birth, and still not be "mother"
Is there a father of record for these abused children?

Who had the idea of a hose for drinking water? All kinds of bacteria, bugs, etc lurk in a hose

More sickness by adults abusing children, I think all women and men before they have children, should have to go to a shrink and be throughly tested to make sure they will be good, decent parents....I'm tired of children being abused. The laws need to much stronger in this area.

"where's dad? or should I say dads?

no water? the older boys know how to use the hose outside.

Don;t think this was abuse, it was probably punishment for misbehaving inside.

Actually, I saw this on the news last night. This happened at an apartment complex. I doubt there are hoses lying around for the kids to drink out of.

When the police came and knocked on the door to tell her to let the kids in, she refused which is when she was arrested. The older kids had knocked on a neighbor's door because they had no water and no food.

There is a lot more to this story than WRAL is posting, you can bet on that.

For one thing, this happened last Friday, and if memory serves, it was over 100 degrees.

My children played outside all the time. Most of my grandkids play outside, but when it is that hot, they do need to come in out of the heat and get water.

I think the older boys probably told a neighbor that their mom was being real mean, or something like that, and wouldn't let them come in.

As I said, there is far more to this story than we are getting here.

this may just be me...but my 3&4 year old is not playing outside unattended. Do you people realize what year this is?? What happen to a good ol whoopin as a punishment?! Not looking your kids out in the dead heat of summer with no water! Making your kids go out and play versus just being a lazy parent & locking them out are two way different scenerios. I guess I can believe some people would take up for sorry parenting.

My dad used to LOCK us out of the house. But then again, I was 8 or 9 and my sister was 6 or 7 and it wasn't 100 degrees outside.

^^^^^^^^^I have to agree with this, too. I was made to stay outside allll the time, but if the cops had shown up, I'm sure Mom would have let me in. This probably wouldn't even BE A STORY, if she had just let the kids come in, especially in the kind of heat we've had. Besides, a 3 & 4 yr. old has no business outside unsupervised.

even if it was punishment she could have made sure that they had water and yes 3 and 4 is kind of young.

  • fishandgrits3 Jul 27, 2010

its too hot to be outside with no water. what if no hose is available?
