Raleigh woman accused of stealing nearly $60K from job

Posted January 20, 2013

— A Raleigh woman has been arrested on accusations that she stole nearly $60,000 from her employer.

Sonya Jenkins Franks, 41, of 4217 Beacon Crest Way, was charged Sunday with one count each of forgery and embezzlement.

According to an arrest warrant, Franks stole the money last year, over a seven-month period, from Family Legacy Mental Health Services in Raleigh.

She was jailed under a $15,000 bond and is expected to make her first court appearance Tuesday.

Rebelyell, why do you bring up Vernon W. Hatley regarding this. What do Vernon W. Hatley have in common with Sonya Jenkins Franks?

  • Rebelyell Jan 22, 2013

VERNON W HATLEY was the Wake county school transportation director that was responsible for 3.8 million being siphoned from the taxpayers. In 2006 he started a 10 year sentence, got out last year, in 6 months he will not even be on probation. Just another example of why this keeps happening.

And to think I can't even get a job......I'm honest, worked all my life, just happen to be a young 50 something but can't get hired! I would have loved that job.

I'm sure Mrs. Franks thinks it is quite all right to steal from those she would deem as more gullible and intellectually inferior to her, but would find it frankly unfair if someone were to steal from her.

It goes hand-in-hand with the article about Ben Chavis' and William Barber's observations about the Obama reelection.

Let's do the math here..... She stole $60K, and her bond is $15K...mmmmmmm. And stealing from an organization helping the Mentally Ill. $ Scum $ of the earth.

shame on her, shame on her company for letting this go on for so long. $60k over 7-mo and they didn't notice?

She should be ashamed of herself, but she is only sorry that she got caught! No excuse! Hard time for her. Everyone is going through hard times, but, they are not embezzling funds from her employer.

What is the world coming to. There are so many people killing, stealing.. Why would someone risk a job and then have a criminal record so you cannot get another job?? I am laid off and not able to find a job :( I would NEVER think of stealing from anyone.. How can a person steal and use the money/items when you know they aren't yours.. I have always had to work and earn what I got as many people do... She needs a much higher bond

When I was young I worked at a dr office that had NO checks and balances and worked off a paper ledger. I told the office manager one day, "it would be so easy to steal from here, we need checks and balances." I was concerned about the night shift. I would have never taken a dime from the payments received. Her response was, "I'd know and I'll be watching you from now on." My repsonse to that was, "do you think I'd be giving you hints if I was the one you needed to watch?" I realize that was years ago but something never change. She never kept an eye on anything that mattered.

Perhaps Ms. Franks just wanted to cut out the middle man and TAKE her "fair share" instead?
