Raleigh woman accused of stealing charitable donations from state employees

Posted November 25, 2014

Kimberly Douglas Lane

— A Raleigh woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly embezzling money intended for charity, the State Bureau of Investigation reported.

Kimberly Douglas Lane, 48, was working for the North Carolina Department of Revenue in August when $6,188.90 in donations from state employees were reported missing from two accounts. The workplace contributions were supposed to go to various charities.

SBI investigators said an audit confirmed the money was missing from the accounts, for which Lane served as treasurer.

Lane turned herself in at the Wake County jail and was released on a written promise to appear in court. She also repaid the money, investigators said.

Yes, and not to mention that State employees, on average, make significantly less for the same type of job compared to a job in "corporate" business. So them giving that money probably put more of a stress on their paychecks. This women needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

This is about as low as one can get. Stealing charitable donations? Very sad! There are organizations around that can help those in need - but you don't have to steal.
