Posted February 17, 2011

— A Raleigh woman is accused of growing marijuana in the home she shares with her young children.

Shakelle Antwainett Rowland, 34, of 6404 Island Ford Drive, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining dwelling for manufacturing drugs and misdemeanor child abuse, according to arrest warrants.

Police discovered a marijuana growing operation and other drug paraphernalia inside Rowland's home last week. Arrest warrants indicate more than 100 marijuana plants were found there.

One of Rowland’s children suffers from asthma, according to warrants.

Rowland was released on bond Thursday and is due in court on Friday.

Thanks for a little common sense Massdaddy. That seems to escape lawmakers in this country.

I don't know what is more stupid, growing weed in your house and thinking that no one would pay any attention to an electric bill that went from $80 per month to $800 per month or locking someone up for growing weed period! Oh, I absolutely love Justin T's post too. They love printing these outragously inflated street values when they bust someone to make the public believe that it's worth their tax dollars to keep allowing them to carry on with this foolish war on drugs! Yeah this would normally be a million dollar operation here. The cops laugh all the way to the bank while the stupid stuck in the mud citizens keep cheering when they hear a case like this. Now they probably spent $30,000 dollars to arrest this girl....so how has the public gained from that???

All a bunch of media BS to make the natural non-lethal plant look bad! Cigarettes are worse, but can she get charged with child abuse for that-NO-ridiculous. Do your research and education on the plant and you will see the "TRUTH". NCCPN.org is where you need to visit and support the upcoming legislative bill to protect and provide safe access for Veterans and Patients that choose to use cannabis as an alternative to harder prescription drugs! Put that in the news!

The government needs to go ahead and legalize MJ. I do not smoke MJ myself, but I don't feel this plant is any worse than alcohol or tobacco on or society. This stuff should be available at the store and the gov't could be regulating it and taxing it. Our state's/nation's deficit could certainly benefit from the taxation.

Make it legal to grow a limited number of plants for personal use and we wouldn't have these kinds of problems. Those who want to dry out and smoke a plant that grows naturally could do so in the privacy of their own home, not bothering anyone else.

The reporting of her daughter having asthma is ridiculous. The mom could smoke cigarettes all day long in the house and it's not illegal or newsworthy. But light up a joint and all of a sudden it's an issue that her daughter has asthma.

The asthma detail seems unnecessary. Are they accusing her of making the kid smoke pot?

  • Justin T. Feb 18, 2011

What? No "worth 100 million dollars" or similar inflated number... if you're going to do lazy police work instead of catching real criminals you're supposed to make up a crazy street value. Everybody knows that.

somebody snitched on her....tooo many haters out there!!

This goes to show that cops aren't the brightest bulbs on the planet. Remember that these are the same people that call marijuana a narcotic (Pro Tip : It's not. Neither is cocaine.)

Marijuana actually helps asthma; it certainly doesn't make it worse. There is actually a guy in Texas who got life in prison for "smuggling" his medical marijuana from California to Texas; medical marijuana which he used to treat his asthma.

"One of Rowland’s children suffers from asthma, according to warrants."

She will have a hard time keeping those children. Social Services will be knocking on her door, if they haven't already.
