— A Raleigh woman has been jailed on a felony child abuse charge after her 11-year-old child was burned.

An arrest warrant alleges that Yesenia Alvarez, 29, of 4359 Old Poole Road "did intentionally inflict seriously bodily injury" on the child, who suffered second-degree burns on the hands.

Investigators did not release further details about the child or the crime.

Alvarez, who is from Mexico, was in the Wake County jail Wednesday under a $25,000 bond as well as an immigration detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

She appeared in Wake County District Court Wednesday, where she told a judge she did not want to return to Mexico because she has been threatened by her husband.

Felony child abuse is punishable by up to 88 months in prison.

This is not a politically correct statement perhaps, but I have noticed the number of women being charged with serious child abuse crimes seems to be on the uptick the past several years. It's disturbing.

Im sorry...Im part hispanic and I EVEN SAY THROW HER BACK ON THE BUS...Who cars if her husband has threaten her??? I don't...Maybe the reason he has threaten her because of what she has done... Let him have at her.

So, in her mind it is OK to burn her own child but not OK for her husband to threaten her. Unreal. So sad for the child. Not only does the child have to deal with the physical pain but also the fact that it was intensionally done by mom. :(

Just how quickly can she be put on a bus?

  • rachel Mar 21, 2012

perhaps if she didn't want to go back to Mexico because her husband is threatening her, she should not have been threatening to her child.
