A Raleigh woman was arrested Monday on accusations that she intentionally burned a 3-month-old child left in her care.

Mercedes Evette Norman, 19, of 3701 Marshlane Way, was charged with one count of intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

According to an arrest warrant, burns from hot water left the child – Norman's second cousin – with burns on 8 percent of its body, including its buttocks, left ankle and thigh.

Norman was jailed under a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Hope she gets the worst judge and prosecutor there is out there.

ncdime1235... You hit the nail squarely on the head. It's time for this welfare cycle to stop. It isn't fair to the children either, who grow up angry without fathers and turn to a life of crime that we are seeing in the paper every day. Also, it's time for men to stop impregnating these women! Ever hear of using protection?

Thank you Outspoken for shedding light on this incident. I completely understand how this can happen. A 3 months olds skin is so thin, and fragile that what we would consider hot-warm, could be scalding for them. Also, the baby bathtubs come with a sling. She may not have noticed that the baby was uncomfortable until she laid the bay in the sling and got down on her knees to prepare to bathe the child. Either way...I pray for healing for all people involved. Emotional, and physical.

Her Attorney should be ashamed of herself, how dare you say that a mother of 5 accidentally burned that baby !!! As a mother ya know when the water is at the right temp. for an infant!!! I hope she does some serious time in jail, our justice system needs to protect the young and innocent !

Mental illness , ignorance and dysfunction running rampant in the USA.
