Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was arrested Monday on accusations that she intentionally burned a 3-month-old child left in her care.
Mercedes Evette Norman, 19, of 3701 Marshlane Way, was charged with one count of intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury.
According to an arrest warrant, burns from hot water left the child – Norman's second cousin – with burns on 8 percent of its body, including its buttocks, left ankle and thigh.
Norman was jailed under a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
