Raleigh wants to know how you would change liquor sales system

Posted April 1, 2010

The City of Raleigh has posted an online survey to gauge public support for changes to the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) system.

The North Carolina state legislature is considering changes to the system, which could include ceding control to local municipalities or converting the public system to a private enterprise.

City leaders want to know what concerns residents have about the issuance of alcohol sales permits and zoning.

Responses to the survey will be accepted through Wednesday, and they will be included in the city's presentation to the legislature that day.

Start with a $5.00 tax on every bottle of liquor. That would b a great start. Hey, they are taxing "smokes" to death. Why not?

I don't want the people who tried to ban garbage disposals regulating liquor stores and the sale of alcholic beverages.

Stop listening to the so called "less governemnt" conservative church people who want to strictly control what we buy, where we buy it and when!

And, know that control of alcohol is a valuable thing...so don't just give it away to one or two companies...auction it off...or let every company have full access.

I would not change the ABC system at all! Except to allow the legal sale of marijuana. Tax Revenue!

Privatize! And, since Raleigh thinks it's a big city and keeps building and building, taking away all the green that's left, like NYC, DC, LA, etc., put a liquor store on every other corner.

"Get rid of the ABC completely, privatize alcohol sales and allow sales wherever a vendor wants to sell. Allow free market economics and competition to determine price." bigredtruckman

All that needs to be said. Make it happen NC!
